Where we come from

Roots that go back decades.

Novalis grew from a vision carried for half a century — a conviction that there are older, wiser ways to live and learn, and that this wisdom belongs in the future we're building. It began as an eco-village research project: studying intentional communities that seek to create a new way of relating to ourselves, to one another, to the Earth, and to a greater whole. That work led to a larger question: what would a new model of education look like — one that carries the values of those communities into everyday life?

Out of that inquiry, Arc 11 took shape on Paradise Lane, in the heart of Ashland: an eco-campus built by hand, from the earth. The art and science of natural building is older than any trend, and is more necessary now than ever before. Arc 11 teaches timeless ways of building with the land, through practice rather than theory. Here Novalis is carving out pockets of progress, with hands in the soil and boots on the ground, a living demonstration of the positive environmental and social good that this work makes real.

Transformational AI grew from the same soil. Working this close to the land clarified how much the same care is needed with an essential force reshaping our lives: technology. Just as we have to embody a grounded relationship with the earth, we must also learn to embrace one with AI that is healthy, ethical, and human. If Arc 11 is the earth beneath Novalis' feet, Transformational AI is the sky above: a tool for the future we're all reaching toward. Between them, Novalis holds the full span, from the wisdom of the past to the tools shaping our future.

How we work

Weaving the ancient and emergent, turning paradox into tangible good.

So much of what we're taught never prepared us for the journey of shaping the future we desire to live in. Novalis exists to teach what school left out, at a moment when the world is asking for a new way to live and thrive. Novalis weaves ancient and emergent wisdom: practices that look divergent until you put them to work together, to equip people with tools for a changing world.

Our work moves in widening circles of connection, and each of our programs operates across all of them:

  • Inspiring our personal growth
  • Strengthening our bonds with others
  • Restoring our relationship with the Earth
  • Nurturing our collective future

It is not just inner work or outward progress that we are seeking. We create change that holds the paradox and leads to real-world impact.
